This was the most successful piece of art I made in grad school, which I graduated from in ‘91.
It’s made of hundreds of cut outs of Xeroxed images from my sketch book pinned to the wall like butterflies. They are the descendants of the erotic doodles I started making in ‘86. The large amount of images was meant to make something substantial out of something small and ephemeral. I drew these images from varying combinations of reference material and imagination.
I showed this around NYC in a few galleries until I began to tire of all the xeroxing and cutting. Also, installation was a bitch. (Back then I’d never even heard of an intern.) By the mid 90’s I started focusing on improving the quality of the individual drawings.
